What product should I use
to kill head lice?

There are several types of head lice products available in Australia – chemical pesticide products (maldison and permethrin), natural essential oil pesticide products and pesticide free products that have a physical mode of action. 

It is important to check the product label to see exactly what type you are purchasing, as lice are developing resistance to some of the chemical pesticide products. 

Essential oils have been known from ancient times to be effective pesticides but have been criticised for not having clinical studies. Resistance has not been reported to be a problem with essential oil products.

Essential oil products may cause transient stinging and should not be used in very young children.
